What is iDebit?

iDebit is a secure online payment method that lets you pay for purchases through online banking.

How does it work?

iDebit enables you to make payments to merchants directly from your online banking account. Sign up for an account now or check out as a guest, then log into your bank with the same username and password you use to access online banking to approve the transaction. Your banking credentials stay securely between you and your bank and no personal information is shared with the merchant.

Who can use iDebit?

To use iDebit, you must be 18 or older and have a bank account with online banking at one of our supported banks.

Which countries/banks does iDebit support?

iDebit is currently available in Canada at these supported banks.

What if I don’t have online banking?

Please contact your bank to access online banking.

iDebit Account Management

Can I start using iDebit right away? / Do I need an iDebit account? / Do I need to have an iDebit account before I can make a purchase on a merchant site?

You can start using iDebit immediately. You do not need to pre-register for an account and you have the option to check out as a guest. If you prefer, you can sign up for an iDebit account quickly and easily at the top of this page.

Why do you need my date of birth?

We use your date of birth to verify your identity. This protects your security and prevents the use of iDebit by persons under the age of 18.

How can I keep track of my iDebit transactions?

Log in to your iDebit account at idebitpayments.com to view your complete transaction history.

How can I find out if I’m nearing my transaction limit?

You can access your transaction limit at any time by logging in to your iDebit account at idebitpayments.com. Your updated limit is also included on your receipt at the end of every transaction.

How do I change my personal information?
Email address, password, etc.

To change your personal information, including your email address, password, and notification settings, simply log in to your account at idebitpayments.com and click Edit next to the field you'd like to change.

Home address, banking information, etc.

To change your home address or your bank account information, you will need to contact security@idebitpayments.com. Please note that you will be required to provide one or more of the following pieces of documentation:

  1. A drivers license, passport, or other government issued photo ID
  2. A utility bill or other proof of address
  3. A void cheque (not a counter or temporary cheque)
How do I close my iDebit account?

To close your iDebit account, please contact security@idebitpayments.com.

Making Payments with iDebit

Are there any fees? / Do I have to pay to use iDebit? / What are the fees for using iDebit?

The fee breakdown for using iDebit is as follows:

Can I choose which account at my bank to remove funds from?

Yes, you are able to choose which account to remove funds from. Please note that only personal accounts may be used; business accounts are not permitted.

Can I pay for my purchase from two different bank accounts?

You cannot split payments between different bank accounts for one transaction. Each payment must be paid in full from a single bank account.

How will purchases I make using iDebit appear on my bank statement?

Payments made through iDebit are bank-specific. Please refer to your emailed receipt for your bank statement descriptor.

How do I use funds in my iDebit Balance Account to pay for purchases on merchant sites?

If there are sufficient funds in your iDebit Balance Account (in the same currency) to cover the entire amount of the transaction, the iDebit system will automatically use the funds in your Balance Account to pay for purchases. Your Balance Account cannot be used to make partial payments.

How can I cancel my payments to iDebit?

You cannot cancel a payment made through iDebit, but you may contact the merchant directly about issuing a refund.

What if the merchant does not deliver the goods or services I purchased using iDebit?

You must contact the merchant to resolve the issue.

What if I need to return/refund my purchase?

You must contact the merchant to resolve the issue. If you believe funds were removed from your account in error, contact security@idebitpayments.com immediately.

What exchange rate is used for deposits/payments?

Currency conversions for deposits and payments will be made at the day’s exchange rates established by iDebit, which includes a premium to compensate for the currency risk involved in the provision of the service.

Withdrawing Funds

How do I withdraw funds from my account?

To withdraw funds, log in to your iDebit account at idebitpayments.com and select 'Withdraw funds'. Please note that if it is your first time withdrawing funds, you will need to provide additional information (for example, bank account information)

How do I register my bank account?

To register your bank account, login to your iDebit account and select ‘Register Bank Account’. You will then be prompted to enter the bank information found on your personal cheque.

How long will it take to receive withdrawn funds?

The method used to withdraw funds determines how long it will take to receive the funds. Funds should reach your bank account within 5 business days (maximum).

Contact & Support

There is an issue with the product/service I purchased. What should I do?

Return policies vary by merchant, so it is important that you check the merchant’s return/refund policy or contact their customer support directly.

If the merchant issues a refund, your money will be credited to your iDebit balance account.
